Each year, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, in partnership with state motor carrier agencies, will conduct close to 15,000 safety audits and compliance reviews. This results in hundreds of trucking companies being fined for not complying with the minimal requirements of the regulations governing operation of transportation companies. FMCSA's mission is to target both unsafe carriers and hazardous drivers for safety interventions that could lead to placement on their out of service list. These fines are the result of companies failing to maintain and keep safe operating commercial motor vehicles on the road. Regulatory agencies become stricter every year with heavier fines and demanding requirements on the part of transportation companies.

Additionally, each year the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will collect millions of dollars in fines from employers who are not properly training and protecting their employees in the workplace. Every year in the US, there are over 5,000 employees who die at work. Workplace injuries and fatalities lead to inspections and investigations conducted by OSHA Compliance Officers, which can then lead to companies payout so much in civil penalties they end up having to close down!
